Guerin College Prep and St. Patrick High School will face each other on the basketball court tonight. This is a renewed rivalry, one that was well known for its intensity of competition and spirit. The student-athletes from each of our schools have fiercely prepared for the game.
As our communities prepare for these contests, we wish to send a clear message to our students and families about our expectations for student behavior. We would like to ask you to speak with your student about the following reminders:
Negative cheering will not be allowed. We expect students from both schools to support their teams with full voice, but personal attacks, comments about players or their family members, or any negative comments about the schools, teams, or officiating are out of bounds.
Students should not participate in unhealthy choices such as using alcohol before, during, or after the game. Unfortunately, some students have used alcohol before recent contests leading to poor decision making, and unsafe drinking and driving habits. Administrators will be on hand at tomorrow evening’s games to personally greet each student upon admission.
Social media commentary should only be positive or avoided. Both schools have policies that provide oversight for student behavior whether the student is in or out of school. Comments, posts, or pictures that are in any way demeaning or derogatory contradict the handbooks of both schools and will lead to disciplinary consequences.
As two Catholic in Northwest Chicagoland, Guerin Prep and St. Patrick each have long traditions of excellence. We believe in the value of competition, but also in the importance of representing ourselves in a manner upholding the Gospel values to which we are faithful. We look forward to excellent games and ask our students to act appropriately. Thank you for working with us to support a positive atmosphere tomorrow evening.
