The National Honor Society is a national organization that recognizes juniors and seniors for outstanding scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Each Spring, outstanding sophomores and juniors who have maintained excellent grades were invited to apply for membership.
Because grades are only one criterion for admission into the society, students submit a resume and undergo a rigorous review by the Guerin Prep faculty. The qualifications are a cumulative GPA of 3.50, involvement in school and community events, and teacher recommendations.
To be a member, students must take at least three art classes, earn an A in each of them, and give 20 hours of service to art-related activities. They pledge "to the best of my ability through my talents in art, to help to create a more beautiful world for myself, for humankind, and for all living things." The student must also have maintained at least a 2.5 grade point average. Each member must also submit an essay about what art means to them and attend all meetings after school. In addition to meetings, students will be required to participate in service hours which include preparing for and submitting work to the Triton Art Show, the Emerging Artist Show, National Art Honor Society Induction Ceremony, and the Guerin Art Show.
